2011 50/50 Exhibition @ Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica, California
How about an exhibition with 3000 small works of art by 60+ artists?
That is what a 50/50 show is all about.
The Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica California has had a 50/50 Exhibition for the past few years. The 2011 show was juried by De Witt Cheng, curator, and art writer, and included the work of over 60 artists.
Each artist was tasked with producing fifty 6 inch x 6 inch works of art in fifty days. Each artist was free to use any medium on the panels for any style of painting, bas relief, collage, or other technique in order to create a body of work for the exhibition.
The artist also was free to choose their own theme. In the past,it has been surprising to see the diversity of ideas, considering the number of artists participating.
I chose a theme of " City Bits"; small scenes and details from my travels in what we all call simply the "City", our San Francisco.
Gleaning fifty subjects from a place that is so rich and diverse in geography, culture, architecture, and lifestyle, as well as weather, was very easy to accomplish.
Here are a few examples of my body of work for the exhibition. The medium used was acrylic on panel, 6x6.
I hope you enjoy them:
