Artist's Statement
Welcome to my website. I am a painter in both oil and acrylic mediums. My subjects include landscape, cityscape, machinery, vehicles, still life, and figures.
Immediately upon my graduation from college as an art and design student, I experienced a significant lifestyle change for the following two years. Subsequently, a change to the vocation of health care for approximately thirty years prevented me from creating art on a full time basis, though allowing sporadic forays in various art projects throughout that time.
Upon my retirement, I was able to find the time necessary to concentrate on art as a more full time endeavor. During that time, I spent much of it relearning technique and medium, attempting to become a more prolific painter.
I have enjoyed the experience more than I could have imagined, and have become very happy with my lot in life; being able to work at one of my loves.
About the work:
I have a keen interest in man made objects, and how they cohabitate with their natural surroundings at different times of the day, given the natural strong light of the sun that is cast upon them. I attempt to portray, with the use of form and color, the changes in temperature between light and shadow as well as what the viewer sees.
I am essentially a realist painter, and of late have been working on a series of vehicle paintings in an ultra realist manner that approaches photorealism. Due to the nature of the painting style, I encounter each painting as a number of abstract components within the confines of the work, realizing the full visual impact as the painting progresses.
